The key to svgatext is that it uses XFree code and configuration
style. Indeed all those nice and fancy hires textmodes are hardware
dependant, but since the driver for all different graphics boards is
inherited from XFree this is not a problem.

Maybe I'll have a look at it, but I don't know whether I have the time
& knowledge to really do something with it.
