There is a "-link ?" switch argument to ifconfig that can 'force' the de
driver to put the port into a certain mode.  The values are 0, 1, or 2
and I think that 2 forces it to 100 Mbps mode!

This switch can be put into your sysconfig/rc.conf de0 config entry.

Btw, what are you doing with 2.2Beta?  FreeBSD 2.2.1 has been out for
some time and there is now a 2.2.2 available.  I suggest that you
upgrade asap!
