Due to the fact that I don't have the speediest of machines (a 486 with
16 mb of ram), I've been trying to reduce the size of my SVGA server (I
use XF86SVGA on a cirrus logic 5428...w/ XFree86 3.1.2 and FreeBSD
2.2.0) by including only necessary display drivers (i.e. only for the
5428). I've tried to follow the directions in
/usr/X11R6/lib/Server/README, but have encountered some difficulties.
When I run "make" in /usr/X11R6/lib/Server, the compile generally bombs
due to an inclusion of lgnumalloc. I had to create a dummy copy of this
library to get X working after upgrading my FreeBSD 2.1.5 system via a
recompile. Anyways, I thought I had disabled use of gnumalloc:
1. I don't have UseGnuMalloc set in xf86site.def
2. I set /ust/X11R6/lib/X11/config/FreeBSD.cf's UseGnuMalloc to "NO".
(Also tried commenting out the entire UseGnuMalloc GnuMallocLibrary
block)
What's the best solution? Just pick up a copy of gnumalloc somewhere?
Supposedly the malloc() that BSD has is better, though...I have a hunch
that I have not configured all the right files though; can't see why
libgnumalloc keeps being thrown in.
Any suggestions would *REALLY* be appreciated!
Sorry about the sig, but I get a couple of cyberpromo mails a day,
not to mention other junk...Uh.
Thanks,
John
