I got as far as building the kernel, but when I tried to boot with the new kernel it got through detecting all the devices (so far as I could tell; it didn't leave any record in /var/log/messages) and then locked up. I thought that maybe the boot sectors might also need updating, so after hacking the boot code to allow more than two SCSI drives (I have a backup bootable filesystem on an optical disk, sd2a) I compiled and installed that, then tried booting again. This time, neither the new nor the old kernel would boot; it got as far as reading the kernel image, then rebooted. Does anybody know what I'm missing here? -- Trevin Beattie "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, *To*reply*to*this* for you are crunchy and good with ketchup." *message,*remove*the* --unknown *asterisks*from*my*email*address.*
