There's newer firmware for the 946C - 4.28D. That shouldn't be your problem,
though. You can get it from their FTP site if you have an EPROM programmer for
PLCC parts and the appropriate tool. You probably don't need it unless you're
running tagged command queueing on specific models of drives.

I fixed the "disconnect off" display bug for BSD/OS 3.0. It looks like you're
running 3.0 since your controller is displaying the model/revision info, so I
don't quite know why you're showing disconnect as off, unless it really is off.
Can you go into the BusLogic SCSI setup (^B at the BusLogic BIOS message) and
check?

You seem to have 2 different revs of the disk there. Also, it seems that the
older rev (sd0) is the one that's reporting the problem.

I have no personal experience with Quantum drives (I use Seagate exclusive-
ly) but I've heard that some models have problems. Since you're not seeing
errors on the Quantum, I wouldn't worry about it at this point.

> All of the drives are inside the computer.

It's quite likely that they're operating outside of the temperature and
power limits. I've never seen a PC case that I'd be happy with more than
3 drives in. I've used CI Designs cases for single drives (IMHO, overpriced
for what you get in terms of quality control) and Trimm (Robroy) "RAID ready"
enclosures for multiple drives and I haven't had many drive failures (with
a population of several hundred assorted Seagate Barracudas).

There's something wrong with your motherboard, BIOS, or disk controller.
This can come from a large number of things, but the first thing to check
is to make sure that the interrupt the BIOS assigns to the BusLogic isn't
in use by another device (perhaps a network card). Your BIOS probably has a
setup screen that lets you select auto or manual interrupt configuration.
If you have another card that's using IRQ 11, then mark it as "used by leg-
acy ISA device" or whatever your setup screen uses.

I'd find it hard to believe that 2 different disk drives both fail on the
same sector (or do you mean the "using polling" message?).

With a SCSI chain this long you should also make sure you're using good
cables and active termination.
