The machine is in a tempature controled room, I can't remeber what the
temp is in the room. I don't have a case on the machine since there
are so many drives in it. 

There could be an airflow problem, but the sd0 drive is not too hot, when
I touch it. sd4 is extermly hot to the touch. 
They are stacked in this order

sd4
sd3
sd2
sd1
sd0

And yes there is space between the drives :) although its not much space.

I am going to get a fan to blow some air between the drives to see if this
will solve the problem.

I'll take a look at their ftp site.

I have the same controller in other machines (which only use one drive)
and I don't seem to have this problem with the controllers.
