It's a bit of a security hole to have relative components (like . - the
current directory) in root's path, because root could end up executing
programs a rogue user placed somewhere. If you're concerned about this,
look at /home/root/.login etc. and change PATH there.

This has been mentioned in this group already some days ago - please look
for the thread "unknown class root in 2.2.2" or something like this.

You mean the CLASSPATH for Netscape? When you installed netscape using
the port, then "netscape" starts a wrapper script (/usr/local/bin/netscape)
which sets this variable.
