My configuration is AT&T Globalyst 600 Pentium 90 48M RAM Quantum PD1050iS 3142 (1G HD) FUJITSU M2949S-512 0142 (9G HD) Adaptec 2940 controler The computer reboots at various times throughout the day. How do I go about tracking down the reason the reboot occurs? I've checked the /var/log/messages file but there is nothing that points to a potential problem. I've included the boot hardware detection log to the /var/log/messages file at the end of this post. Since this behavior happened after I added 32 M RAM and the 9G HD, I'm guessing this is what might be causing the problem. I had originally installed FreeBSD with 16 M RAM and 1 G HD. When I added 32M of RAM I did not increase the size of the swap partition. Could this be a problem? I'm using the machine as a news server so I want to solve this problem. I would appreciate any advice you have to offer. stef May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: FreeBSD 2.1.7.1-RELEASE #0: Wed Mar 19 09:48:14 1 997 May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: jkh@thingy.cdrom.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENE RIC May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: CPU: 90-MHz Pentium 735\90 (Pentium-class CPU) May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: Origin = "GenuineIntel" Id = 0x525 Stepping=5 May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: Features=0x1bf<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,MCE,CX8> May 29 22:39:58 news /kernel: real memory = 50331648 (49152K bytes) May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: avail memory = 46600192 (45508K bytes) May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: Probing for devices on PCI bus 0: May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: chip0 <Intel 82434NX (Neptune) PCI cache memory co ntroller> rev 17 on pci0:0 May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: chip1 <Intel 82378IB PCI-ISA bridge> rev 67 on pci 0:2 May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: vga0 <VGA-compatible display device> rev 1 on pci0 :3 May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: de0 <Digital DC21040 Ethernet> rev 36 int a irq 11 on pci0:12 May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: de0: DC21040 [10Mb/s] pass 2.4 May 29 22:39:59 news /kernel: de0: address 00:00:92:91:55:be May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: de0: enabling 10baseT port May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: ahc0 <Adaptec 2940 SCSI host adapter> rev 0 int a irq 15 on pci0:14 May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: ahc0: aic7870 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16 SCBs May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: ahc0 waiting for scsi devices to settle May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: (ahc0:0:0): "QUANTUM PD1050iS 3142" type 0 fixed S CSI 2 May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: sd0(ahc0:0:0): Direct-Access 1003MB (2055096 512 b yte sectors) May 29 22:40:00 news /kernel: (ahc0:2:0): "FUJITSU M2949S-512 0142" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 May 29 22:40:01 news /kernel: sd1(ahc0:2:0): Direct-Access 8682MB (17781964 512 byte sectors) May 29 22:40:01 news /kernel: Probing for devices on the ISA bus: May 29 22:40:01 news /kernel: sc0 at 0x60-0x6f irq 1 on motherboard May 29 22:40:01 news /kernel: sc0: VGA color <16 virtual consoles, flags=0x0> May 29 22:40:01 news /kernel: ed0: disabled, not probed.
