I switched for one primary and still-strong reason:

I have yet to crash a FreeBSD box while doing ordinary things (i.e.
anything except trying to rewrite the partition table on the disk where
/ was mounted from.)  Linux seemed to like to throw up its hands and die a
lot.  The only really nasty problem I've ever had with FreeBSD was related
to pppd/natd, but now that usermode PPP runs in the background I've
switched in that direction.
