I've been having problems accessing a machine running 2.2.2-RELEASE
using an old version of telnet for DOS. I think the telnet is NCSA
telnet. The messages which pop up in the messages window are as
follows :

DO Option TERMINAL TYPE (WILL)
DO Option TSPEED (WONT)
DO Option Unknown Option (WONT)
DO Option Unknown Option (WONT)
DO Option Unknown Option (WONT)

I tried recompiling the kernel with TCP_COMPAT_42 as suggested by
somebody, but to no avail. I then installed the 2.1.7 telnetd
in place of the default telnetd, and that solved the problem.

Does anybody have suggestions for solving this problem without
stepping back to 2.1.7, and without changing the version of
DOS telnet. The managers of the network are not willing to change
the DOS telnet. Previous versions of FreeBSD and the same version
of telnet have always cooperated in the past.

The new telnetd (2.2.2-RELEASE version) handles telnet from other
unix machines, and from windows and windows NT without any problem
