      It will work in most cases, but might still contain bugs.
      It is free, and will expire on October 1st 1997

WHAT'S NEW since release 1:

    * Layer III support (plays .mp3 files)
    * MPEG 2 support (player files encoded at 16, 22.05, and 24 kHz
    * New MIPS / Irix port 
    * Minor bug fixes


INTRODUCTION:
-------------
      XAUDIO was written to be a fast implementation of an MPEG Audio 
      decoding library to be used by various GUI front-ends.
      We release this alpha version of the players as free download.
      They will become shareware when the first frozen version is
released.

      * Portable MPEG Audio Layer I, II and III support, MPEG 1 and MPEG
2.
      * Generic audio device support & file output.
      * C code optimization (runs faster than maplay).
      * Pentium assembler optimization.
      * Tested on x86, sparc, powerPC, MIPS.
      * Full random access to the bitstream.
      * Full audio control (mono, stereo, volume, balance, etc...)
      * Error robustness.
      
   2. XAUDIO Motif GUI
      * First native GUI for a unix MPEG audio player.
      * Generic motif 1.2 calls (will run on any motif implementation).
      * Multiple dynamic panels.
      * Interactive trackbar control for direct seek.
      * Interactive audio controls.
      * Minimal playlist support (undocumented).
      
 
   3. XAUDIO Windows GUI
      * Multithreaded decoding.
      * Multiple dynamic panels.
      * Interactive trackbar control for direct seek.
      * Interactive audio controls.
      * Drag & Drop support.
      * InstallShield (tm) archive distribution.

   4. XAUDIO BeOS GUI
      * Interactive trackbar control for direct seek.
      * Interactive audio controls.
      * Drag & Drop support.
