Hello there,

We can boot the installer iff we tell LILO/loadlinx to "noprobe" the
disk (then we cannot fdisk or mount or whatever).

PS/VP are mentioned in the HOWTOs, many transactions found in the news
during last 2 years about same symptoms, but the hints given do not do
it: hd=cyls,heads,sect and/or hd=noprobe and/or ide=noprobe

Has somenone succeeded in running Linux on these platforms, after
having met the same pb ?
Could some experts in hdparm.c/ide.c/etc (and better understanding than
mine of these platforms) give us hints ?
Could users of other free Unices tell us about their experience on these
platforms ?

Hardware: IBM PS/VP 6384-C20 (aka 325T), 386-4/6M-80M
Install: Slackware 3.0, RedHat 2.1, via loadlinx or LILO
Symptom: IDE drive is said to be not ready, timeout.

Please reply by mail, I'll sum up -- hope I'll have to :-(

TIA,

        Thierry Holtzer
