I have the same similar system. It just means that the : :CD is 8 bit. Boot using -v option and you will see 16 bit for the disk. : : Sure. Booting with -v showed that transfers with the HD are 16-bit : wide. Anyway, I would like to know what "ahc:0:A:5" means. At least, : it's a somewhat confusing message. It is probably an ambigious error message from the ahc driver trying to negotiate a wide transfer with your CD-ROM drive which causes the confusing error message. It is quite common in a wide SCSI bus with both narrow and wide devices for unpredicable results like this to occur which is why Adaptec and Buslogic have their respective onboard utilities to configure each device on your SCSI bus. Disable wide negotiation from SCSISelect for SCSI ID 5 and see if it corrects the problem. As a rule of thumb, I always configure each device on my SCSI bus from Adaptec's SCSISelect or Buslogic's Auto-SCSI. JCA -- n-xiv@worldnet.att.net
