Cfengine version 1.4.0 is released
----------------------------------
Cfengine is a system administration tool which combines a very high
level language with an expert system. Netwide services can be
configured from a single centralized scheme through class-based
organization. For more information see,
http://www.iu.hioslo.no/~mark/cfengine
v1.4.0 includes many enhancements. Here is a few of them:
Network copying (rdist functionality from a "pull" rather than "push" model) with
checks to avoid the partial copying of files dues to error.
Remote execution of cfengine with anti-spamming controls
Filesystem copying preserving hardlinks etc
Extensive time classes provide a netwide front end to cron.
Disk usage warnings can trigger class definitions (to start tidying for instance)
Input readable from stdin with filename '.'
New classes including support for the cray, nextstep and several other new platforms.
New editing commands, including iteration over loops
Copy if filesize >,<,=
More efficient binary checksum for local comparisons
Addition of timeouts and maximum-time limits on all operations.
Parentheses allowed in class expressions.
A new locking mechanism allows several concurrent cfengines to coexist
without overlap or contention.
cfrun - a new program for "pushing" changes to all hosts. (Actually by polling
hosts and politely asking them to pull changes)
A considerably improved manual with many tips and examples.
Bug reports can be sent to bug-cfengine@prep.ai.mit.edu.
Help-cfengine@prep.ai.mit.edu is a mailing list for cfengine users;
join by sending the word "subscribe" to help-cfengine-request@prep.ai.mit.edu.

[ Most GNU software is packed using the GNU `gzip' compression program.
Source code is available on most sites distributing GNU software.
For information on how to order GNU software on tape or cd-rom, and
printed GNU manuals, check the file etc/ORDERS in the GNU Emacs
distribution, ftp the file /pub/gnu/GNUinfo/ORDERS on prep, or
e-mail a request to: gnu@prep.ai.mit.edu
By ordering your GNU software from the FSF, you help us continue to
develop more free software. Media revenues are our primary source of
support. Donations to FSF are deductible on US tax returns.
The above software will soon be at these ftp sites as well.
Please try them before prep.ai.mit.edu as prep is very busy!
