This is not correct, at least, as specified in my "DNS and BIND" O'Reilly  
book:
"Normally, the default domain is determined from the host's hostname: the  
default domain is everthing after the first '.' in the name"
..
"You can also set the default domain with the 'domain' directive in  
resolv.conf"
