I had tried running FreeBSD 2.1.5 on it but that was a total disaster -- after running for a bit, it would crash and I would find random bits of disk smashed with zeroes, usually parts of directories or inodes. I replaced every part of the system except the Adaptec, with the same results. I finally gave up when I heard that FreeBSD 2.1.5 and the 2940 had major problems with each other. After reading about 2.2.2 and its fixes for the 2940 I decided to try it again. Things were going better for a while, but then it started up with its same old tricks. Should I just try to track down a Buslogic 946 (I think that's the PCI version) and give up on the Adaptec? I've swapped the disk, memory, the motherboard, the CPU, cables, and even the power supply, so I can think of nothing left but the 2940. -- Karl Swartz |Home kls@chicago.com |Work kls@netapp.com |WWW http://www.chicago.com/~kls/ Moderator of sci.aeronautics.airliners -- Unix/network work pays the bills
