I recommend Dan Kegel's ISDN FAQ (a top search candidate if you do a netsearch for ISDN) - it describes the difference between ISDN terminal adaptors, sync ISDN cards, etc. -- - Jordan Hubbard FreeBSD core team / Walnut Creek CDROM.
