Have the UCB lawyers cleared all this? Or are people going to get left
holding the bag again being sued for using software being released by
UCB?

Although I hardly hold UCB culpable in the Net2 suit (basically what
they did, release Net2, was a wonderful thing), and in my heart
believe that USL is just plain wrong in the suit and UCB is ultimately
a victim of some really vicious greed, it might be nice to hear
something of a statement from UCB about to what extent they will go to
back up their claims that this software has clear title, even in an
unfair world. Or perhaps at least make some attempt to warn people who
receive this software about how wrong things can go.

Right now I'd describe UCB's stance in the Net2 suit as "waffling",
begrudgingly cooperative, resenting the costs, refusing donations
(i.e. refusing to commit to the public defending the claims they made
to that public), etc.

But if they truly believe otherwise right now would be a real good
time to make it known. This is all ugly and unfortunate, but pointing
that out won't make it go away, a lot of good people are getting
really hurt by this, maybe UCB should demand that USL sign it all off
or something.
