Announcement of syscons-0.1:

This is the new official name for the newest version of the improved/enhanced
pccons I announced back in november.

It is available on ref.tfs.com in /usr/src/sys.extras/sos-syscons.
(thanks julian!)

HIGHLIGHTS:

It is (should be) total backwards compatible with the original (386bsd-0.1)
console driver. On top of this is the following features:

The driver can now be "config"'ed in/out of the kernel (you don't have to
overwrite your current pccons, they can coexist, only one active though).
Virtual consoles (configurable number, 12 is default, configurable switch key
sequence to avoid conflict with user programs)
Fully configurable keyboard (national layouts, caps->ctrl, you name it).
Support for SHIFT, CONTROL, ALT for any key (8 combinations pr. key).
Programmable function keys (60 of them, including keypad).
Changeable keyboard delay & repeat rate.
Set keyboard into acsii/scan-code mode.
Programmable keyboard leds.
X11 (general graphics) support functions.
25/50 line support.
Supports loading of fonts (ISO8859-1, codepage 850, codepage 865 provided)
Built-in screen saver (timeout configurable)
Supports a subset of the SYSV386(tm)/SCO(tm) console ioctl's (means easier
porting of screen oriented software from other 386 *ix's)
Understands a subset of SCO(tm) ansi color console escape sequencies.

New utilities to do these things from the command line !

BUGS, comments to: sos@kmd-ac.dk IMPORTANT: use this address not the one
in the header, as I do NOT get
                                             mail from that account reliably.

		      enjoy / sos

STOP-PRESS: Syscons-0.2 is in beta! support for switching screen in graphics
mode, even in X, programmable tone generation, program controlled
screen-switch, graphics library with demos etc .......
