I have done this before with no problems using FreeBSD 2.1.5 and 2.1.6. The only difference between the machines is the controller. The one that works has a AHA2940W and the machine that doesn't work has a NCR 53c810c controller. There is no problem creating one partition using the whole disk and creating a filesystem. When I try creating two partitions I get the following: line 24: bad partition name Warning, unused partition d: size 2074800 offset 0 re-edit the label? [y]: The new partition table follows: # /dev/rsd1c: type: unknown disk: label: flags: bytes/sector: 512 sectors/track: 84 tracks/cylinder: 19 sectors/cylinder: 1596 cylinders: 2628 sectors/unit: 4194685 rpm: 3600 interleave: 1 trackskew: 0 cylinderskew: 0 headswitch: 0 # milliseconds track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds drivedata: 0 3 partitions: # size offset fstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg] c: 4194685 0 unused 0 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 2628*) d: 2074800 0 4.2BSD 0 0 0 e: 2119885 2074800 4.2BSD 0 0 0 Any thoughts?? =--- Paul Manuel paul8@cs.mun.ca Memorial University of Newfoundland =---
