A lot of the commercial activity involving UNIX or UNIX-like operating systems are starting to look like appliances. Check out these: http://www.gnatbox.com - A Firewall based on FBSD that runs off a floppy. I setup beta2 recently in 10 minutes with 2 interfaces on 100MB networks and the external Internet interface on a 10MB network. http://www.qnx.com/iat/index.html - QNX OS, Browser, Server, and dialup PPP that runs off a floppy. http://www.whistle.com - A cool Internet Gateway that looks like a toaster. Also based on FBSD. Also, people like ASCEND and USRobotics use BSDI in some of their high-end products. It would be impossible to do a lot of what the above products are doing using something based on Windows. Regards, Mike Hancock
