NetBSD is pretty stable, has shared lib support, and has a reasonably active
set of developers and mailing list. X has R5 server and R6 clients.

Ditto for OpenBSD. I don't know if they have a pmax specific list, but
their development has (so far) run pretty much concurrent with NetBSD.
Thier current installation might be a shade easier--this may change with
NetBSD 1.3.

So far as I know, Linux/MIPS is still in its infancy, although they do have
a web page and a couple of test kernels. See
http://www.softway.com.au/people/paul/dec/ .

I have a 5000/120 on a -current NetBSD kernel that has been up for 43 days
(and that only due to a power outage). OpenBSD should be similar.

I'd guess NetBSD, but only because it has been "working" the longest.

Heard it here, too. Oh well.
