Searching www.digital.com products for celebris, ps/2, and mouse proved that the mouse was really a ps/2 mouse. Searching www.FreeBSD.org revealed that the ps/2 mouse may need to be sync'ed when changing video modes. I added 'options PSM_CHECKSYNC' to the kernel config. I believe this is the only diff from my earlier attempt. Anyway, the mouse works. And, XFree86 3.3 now works. Thanks, tomdean
