I just finished installing FreeBSD on a machine connected to a LAN. The
host name for the machine is as yet not set up on DNS. Before I had all
the TCP/IP networking setup properly, sendmail loaded with no trouble and I
could run Pine. Once I setup the default gateway and the other networking
information in rc.conf then Pine ceases to work and sendmail hangs during a
reboot until it eventually times out and the boot finishes. My first
concern is that for some reason, this latest FreeBSD install didn't setup
all of the networking stuff automagically like it has for me in the past.
Did I miss something? Secondly, what do I need to setup so the sendmail
will work? What is causing it to hang when the network is working and to
work fine when the network is not working?
