Try the latest version from http://www.freebsd.org/~brian.  There's
a "set hangup" that will allow you to "ATZ" your modem before it's
closed compliments of peter@citylink.dinoex.sub.org (Peter Much), and
some improvements to the way SIGHUP/SIGINT are handled.
