This is after the kernel loads from the floppy, gives the configuration menu, and probes for the devices. Pressing ScrollLock at this point allows looking at the device probe messages. Pressing SysRq shows an error message that reads something like wd0: invalid partition, no magic or something similar. wd0 is a new 3 GB EIDE disk that replaces an old 325 MB IDE disk on which FreeBSD 2.2.1 was successfully installed with a boot floppy and distribution CD-ROM. The only difference between the system then and now is the disk, the video card (but I got the same result with the original video card and the new 3 GB disk), and the monitor. With the new disk, I did reset the BIOS parameters using the BIOS' automatic disk detector. On the installed FreeBSD on the old 325 MB IDE disk, /stand/sysinstall crashes, although it worked then from the install floppy. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Timothy J.
